4x4 drivers wanted in Buckinghamshire

Buckinghamshire Council has appealed for locals to use their 4x4 vehicles to help vulnerable people combat any icy weather conditions this month.

According to Mix96.co.uk, the appeal was made by many council representatives - who may actually decide to boost their efforts by invest in 4x4 hire, too.

One such spokesperson was Martin Phillips, the cabinet member for community engagement. He exclaimed: "We're looking for the snow saviours of Buckinghamshire! It's a Big Society ask, and we know our county has so many community-spirited people who'd be so willing to help our vulnerable people during the winter."

It isn't just vulnerable residents that will benefit though, as the working community could too, according to the council's head of commissioning for adult social care, Trevor Boyd.

He explained: "Our staff thought nothing of walking when driving wasn't possible to provide much-needed care and support to vulnerable people - but we could do so much more, and much more quickly if we had the help of volunteers with 4WD vehicles."

The plea for help - also cited by 4x4galore.com - saw a local policeman join in on the action. Chief inspector Colin Seaton confirmed that it's crucial the local community is prevented from any dire effects winter snow or ice could bring. He remains hopeful that local residents will step up to help, he said.
