Britain awaits Indian summer

Temperatures will soar in Britain this week with some areas in the south expected to hit around 28C, say forecasters.

The Indian summer, expected to arrive from Wednesday, is set to be the warmest October weekend for 26 years. According to Telegraph.co.uk, the temperatures will be even hotter than those on the tropical island of Kauai in Hawaii.

"At the moment, it looks like Friday and Saturday are going to be the warmest days of the week with temperatures locally getting up to as high as 28C in the London area," MeteoGroup forecaster Andy Ratcliffe told the Press Association.

"Most of the UK will be dry, warm and humid with plenty of sunshine all week. Temperatures of around 23C are expected in the south east tomorrow before increasing to 25C on Wednesday," he added.

Brits have a blast of high pressure from northern Europe to thank for their last minute opportunity to bask in the sun. The late warmth is sure to be appreciated by businesses and Brits alike considering how cool the temperatures of June and July were.

The hospitality sector in particular, from hoteliers to ice cream vendors, will be hopeful that sun-worshipers are out in their droves. Similarly, van leasing firms will be hoping to see an increase in rentals from those keen to try out a surfboard for the last time in 2011.

The only rains expected will affect the western coastlines of the UK on Wednesday, with western Scotland experiencing heavier showers until Thursday or Friday.
