Britain becomes third most popular global destination
Britain's international image is "improving significantly" as it becomes the third most popular tourist destination in the world, according to a new report.
The UK has now overtaken France, moving up one place in the Anholt-GFK Roper Nation Brands Index (NBI) which ranks the 50 most developed nations as brands.
Sitting just behind the USA and Germany, its overall rankings as one of the most admirable countries in the world bode well for the country's Olympic tourism prospects. The entire hospitality industry, from car hire firms to hoteliers, are expecting bumper bookings from overseas visitors in 2012.
The Queen also celebrates her Diamond Jubilee next year, giving an extra impetus to the nation's economy.
Welcoming the latest findings, Sandie Dawe, chief executive of Britain's national tourism body, VisitBritain, told Breaking Travel News: "This year's NBI report provides yet another insightful score-card for the UK.
"It shows that the overwhelming perception of Britain by overseas visitors is positive and that our image is improving significantly in many of the countries in which we operate around the world."
The Scotsman adds that Britain also faired well with regards to its cultural exports. Citing the research, it reports that Britain jumped two places higher up the league table to forth position for its music, films, literature and sports.
