Homeowners Olympic subleasing plans revealed

Half of those who that rent, or plan to rent their home out during the Olympics in the South East will leave the country for a Mediterranean break, a survey has found.

Temporary lettings during the London 2012 Olympics is expected to provide home owners with lucrative amounts of cash and also generate millions for the economy. This could come from shopping, restaurant takings and long term car hire purchases for example.

But while most men say they'll go abroad to locations like the Med, the majority of women would prefer to stay with friends it has emerged.

Breaking Travel News reports that 30 per cent of people in the survey, conducted by holiday homes specialists Owners Direct, said they'd be be happy to kip on a mates' sofa or even sleep in a converted shed or garage. Women overwhelmingly chose this option compared to men, who said they'd prefer to get out of Britain completely.

It was also discovered that the majority of Olympic rental home owners are aged between 35 and 54. Of these, 40 per cent said that they have already made alternative accommodation arrangements during the games.

Commenting on the findings, marketing manager Angela Southall said on PRFire.co.uk:"The Olympic Games has generated a huge amount of interest in properties in the South so we have launched a service that will allow homeowners who wouldn't normally rent out their properties to do so for a short time.

"We've been amazed at how many people are willing to pack up their lives and find a roof elsewhere for a few weeks!"
