Regular' travellers to face Olympic delay at London Heathrow
Business passengers travelling to Heathrow Airport during the Olympic period this summer could face lengthy delays entering the country.
Leaked UK Border Agency documents, as seen by the Mail Online, warn of hold ups at immigration for passengers as Olympic athletes and delegates are designated a priority over others.
The news suggests that other airports based in or near the capital might be better arrival destinations for those whom have to move quickly in and around the UK. This is particularly pertinent for those whom have contracted business car hire agreements.
Citing the policy documents, TNT Magazine says the leak reads: "The collection of biometrics may result in [passengers being] unduly delayed passing through border control.
"Dedicated lanes and the time taken to collect the biometrics of GFM [Games Family Members] may result in delays to non-Olympic passenger journeys."
Heathrow is widely expected to handle around 80 per cent of the overall Olympic passenger traffic, which will not only be made up of athletes, but sponsors, officials, kit providers and the media.
The biggest logistical nightmare however might not be welcoming guests into the country but getting them out once the show is over. August 13th is tipped to be Heathrow's busiest day ever, with around 218,000 bags expected to pass through the airport.
