The all-new 2012 Ford Ranger will goes on sale in the UK next month, improving on an already impressive 4x4, reports HonestJohn.co.uk.

The new motor will pack a punch just as much as its predecessors have, being able to tow up to 3350kg on selected models and able to cope with 800 millimeters of water when fully laden.

Top models are powered by a ferocious 3.2 litre, five-cylinder diesel engine, capable of 470Nm of torque between 1700 and 3500rpm, with fuel economies of around 28mpg. On smaller 4x2 models, a 2.2 litre, four-cylinder engine, will get around 32.8mpg off a six-speed combined gear box.

Just like its older siblings - a favourite of 4x4 hire specialists - the new Ranger's capacity is admirable too.

Capable of carrying more than 1340kg, with spacious box volumes of 1.82 cubic meters and 1.45 cubic metres on its Regular Cab and Super Cab models respectively, the new Ranger is sure to be a hit with customers who demand ample space from their 4x4.

According to Ford Europe chairman and CEO Stephen Odell, the challenge for the team was to create a vehicle that appealed worldwide and was able to cope with a variety of harsh environments.

"The range of qualities pick-up customers demand from their vehicle is far greater than the differences in conditions from country to country,"  said Odell on Totally Motor.

"The real challenge has been to build a Ranger that is tough and yet comfortable, rugged yet stylish, safe, technologically advanced and powerful, yet remaining affordable. We believe the team has succeeded in every goal. There is no compromise here," he added.
